Streets of Bridgeton          Dunn Street        page 3

.

Dunn Street looking south along what is left of Baltic Street.
The famous Arrols steelworks now lies derelict and all the works and houses are long gone.   Millerston high rise flat in the background

Having lived in the next street to this factory - I knew it well.
Hundreds of men in navy/black overalls, sparks flying through the air, hammers banging, the noise and the smells.......

Sir William Arrol's steelworkers Dunn Street, Bridgeton

This picture was taken around 1975 in the week that Arrols closed their door for the last time, It was common to see the Arrols men playing football in the 'Bully' which was nearby the works in Dunn Street.  Second from the front right (hands in pockets) is Sammy Scott (Smoky) who was in the Parkhead Heatherbell Flute Band   Also shown is 'Trigger', Willie Paul, and Rab Bell, but where they are in the picture I don't know..                           ( Photo from GlescaPal Ronnie )

............ you mentioned the names of some people in the photo that you could not identify, one of these was a Rab Bell. If you look at the photo there are two fellas with there arms folded. Behind the second old boy in from the left you can see another fella with a "bunnet" looking over the old boy's head this is the Rab Bell you have mentioned.
He was a cousin of some sort of my Dad and lived on French St just round the corner from where my Maw n' Da lived in Martin St. Sadly the last time I saw him was in 1986 at my Dad's funeral where he helped my Maw, me and my brothers and sister lay my Da to rest. He was always known to us when we were wee as "Uncle Robert". I believe my Maw might still have the odd photo with him and my Da. I hope this information is of use to you.

You have a picture on your page of my dad ,Robert Bell (Rab) and a Jim Reid mentioned him in a comment. Sadly my dad passed away 23 years ago next month. I don't know if you could let this gentleman know. Thanks
