Rockvilla Primary School  Dawsons Road / Possil Road,  Glasgow

.

Jan.2011 School photograph sent to me by former pupil Campbell Cain, Melbourne, Australia.

G'day.,  Doing research on a pending visit to Glasgow, I just discovered your site and I couldn't find my school. It was Rockvilla Primary School on the corner of Dawsons Road and Possil Road.

As its name suggested it was built on a huge rock, but the school closed some years ago and it has now been demolished ... although the rock still stands. I've attached a photo -  of Rockvilla School taken in the mid 70's

Rockvilla Primary School on Dawson Road in Hamiltonhill, 1970s. The school was designed by John Honeyman and built between 1874 and 1877.  Hamiltonhill existed only as a farm until 1925, when a series of new streets were laid out to the north in an area previously known as Rockvilla. The new houses built there were intended to accommodate people who had lived in areas such as Calton where slum clearance programmes had been implemented.

Sadly how it looks now, 2010

I am looking for my school photos I went to Rockvilla 1947-48 old mrs mc candlish was my first teacher in the baby class as we called it my other teacher was mrs valance till I left.
I lived in the old black tenement on the possil road they called it the vale they were my happiest days we had the genie across the road and the vale to play fitba.
After they pulled the air raid shelters down not to mention the canal for a swim with the old jags football park just along a bit was firhill the Astoria picture house and the wee magnet further on.
What a life talk a out spoilt for choice i do hope you can find my picture I was wearing a big tie belonging to  my dad you would spot it a mile away I think I was about 7 or 8yrs I'm so happy I found this site all information welcome or if I can help in any way.
