I was sent these fabulous photographs from Rosemary McMillan (nee Morton) dates are c1960-1962

The minister conducting is the Rev. Beaton.

Rosemary, I and many others learned many Sunday School choruses at this church

.....'running over',  'deep and wide'  ( remember the hand actions!)

Running over, running over,
my cups full and running over,
   since the Lord saved me,
I'm as happy as can be
my cups full and running over !
.

Deep and wide, Deep and wide

there's a fountain flowing deep & wide
Hallelujah! for its deep & wide, deep & wide
   there's a fountain flowing deep & wide!

Climb Climb up sunshine mountain,
heavenly breezes blow
Climb climb up sunshine mountain faces all aglow

Turn turn your back on sorrow, looking to the sky
Climb climb up sunshine mountain You and I

 .
Give me oil in my lamp, keep it burning
Give me oil in my lamp I pray
Give me oil in my lamp, keep it burning
Keep it burning till the break of day
sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
sing hosanna till the break of day
sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
sing hosanna till the break of day

It was the session clerk who used to lead the chorus singing
every week - he was fabulous, his name was Mr.Jimmy Sproul.

Hi again Webmaister,
I know you have fond memories of wee Jimmy Sproul. He was indeed a great wee man and I still keep in touch with him, albeit through Christmas cards. He lost Isa about 40 years ago and moved to Hillington. Isa was a lovely woman and she and my mum went to the "Steamie" together. Isa did all the church flowers. For the last two years, Jimmy has not sent a card, last year I called him. He said he is not out and about as much as he used to be,( he always went on holiday on his own), but I felt he was loosing the thread of our conversation. He kept asking, "And how is Stewart doing?" He is in his 90's now, but I will give him a wee call soon, I am sure he would like to know you had made a good impression in his life.
They were both very good to my mother and me when my father died very suddenly. He came out to Carluke to visit us about 6 years ago. Would love to have a chat with you about auld times in Fairbairn St.
By the way, Jimmy is in the first row of the photo with Tom Beaton conducting the singing during the morning service. He is at the left next to the two wee girls.
