Oct 2011, Extract from email, Margaret Beard (nee Forrester)

".......Hi there, what a great site. I have recently gone through many of my late parents effects and got excited when I found so many from the days when my Dad was in the 179th BB in Tollcross.
My Dad David Forrester joined the 179BB Company in 1928 when he would have been 12. I am presuming from the Life Boy photo from 1926 he had come up through them.
The 179th was formed in 1919 with association of St Margaret's Church, Tollcross. He rose through the ranks very quickly as you will see from the Membership Cards, becoming Captain in 1939.
Apart from a gap of 6years for Army Service he retired from the 179th  in 1969.
He loved the BB  and although I was a real tomboy I had to be a Girl Guide But I do remember attending camps and football matches at Tollcross park on a Saturday afternoon supporting the 179.  I have discovered some photos and annual show programmes which I will get to you shortly.
Thanks for doing this, it is super.   Margaret
